2010 Trek Gauche

The long awaited bike for lefties, the Trek Gauche.
Trek's Newest Project
The left handed (legged) bike

Coming this fall from Trek, the long awaited left handed....
ah, legged, bike. For all those who have felt discriminated
against because all bikes were righties. Trek will be rolling
out the new Lefty soon. Levi Leftheimer was going to be
riding it on the final stage this year but he broke his wrist
so he will be unable.

Fortunately it was his right wrist ;-)

Independent Front Suspension

ALL ENGINEERS WILL APPRECIATE THIS EXPLANATION

For those of you who are not clear on what is meant by independent front
suspension.... I thought this is a commercial you might enjoy.
If you are considering a Nissan Pathfinder or any other car with independent
front suspension, this little commercial will clear the
air for you. I'm sure you have heard the term, 'INDEPENDENT FRONT
SUSPENSION,' but not many know exactly what it means. When one front
wheel of a vehicle hits a bump or pothole, it will move up or down to
compensate while the other wheel remains steady. Both wheels are
independent of each other, hence that expression. Watch the attached video,
a German commercial for the Nissan Pathfinder, to find out
exactly how this works. This gives a moving experience which should benefit
your understanding of this piece of engineering. It's the best
explanation I've ever seen. Germans have better ads than we do...

Thanks Tom!  I always had a problem with engineering.

Pick a Frame

Pick a frame, any frame.

Well not any frame.  I have to pick the Specialized Tarmac SL in Red/Black or the Trek in Blue or Red?

Anybody had a chance to ride both (or either) and have an opinion?

Running For Kristy

As you begin another season of racing and begin to ramp up your training, please be careful riding.  I remember when people were concerned that changing CDs in the car distracted drivers too much...now we have phone calls, texting, email, internet browsers, GPS.

We are nearing the one year anniversary of the tragedy that took Kristy and Matt from us.  I can't ride through Steven's Creek Reservoir without thinking of them.  Kristy's Mom is memorializing her daughter by training for and running a half-marathon in support of PETA.  If you would like to help support her in reaching her goal you can donate here.

Ride Safe!

The End of the American Century: CEO Pay and the Bailout

The End of the American Century: CEO Pay and the Bailout

In the 1950s, big-company CEOs in the U.S. earned about fifty times the pay of an average worker. Even then, that ratio was very high compared to other countries. But since then, CEO pay in the U.S. has skyrocketed in comparison to average salaries.By 1990, average CEO pay was about 100 times the average worker’s salary, and by 2000, it was more than 500 times that of the average worker.

These benefit packages are far out of line with those in other wealthy countries.

In 2004, the New York Times reported comparative ratios of CEO pay to employee averages. In Japan, CEOs earned about ten times that of the average employee. In Germany, the ratio was 11 to 1, in the UK 25 to 1, and in the United States531 to 1! It is difficult to see how American companies can justify these huge executive compensations when these other countries, which much smaller CEO pay, have generally managed faster economic growth, greater productivity increases, and greater gains in their stock markets.

CEO pay is another glaring example of how far out of kilter the U.S.economy is, how eroded is the sense of fairness in this country, and how out of sync the U.S. is with the rest of the world. It is yet another example of The End of the American Century.

2008-1991=17th Anniversary

I don't think my palate is near sophisticated enough for this stuff.

"A big, ripe, dark, and intense style yet it offers enough finesse and
grace to keep in balance. Offers ripe cherry, currant, and meaty edge
on the finish, where the oak kicks in. "
